This week on the Outside & Active Podcast, Dom welcomes Hugh Brasher

Hugh Brasher was appointed Event Director of London Marathon Events (LME) in 2012 and was a member of the Board of Directors between 2007 and 2010. As well as the Virgin Money London Marathon, London Marathon Events organises RideLondon, The Big Half, the Vitality Westminster Mile and London 10,000, Swim Serpentine and the Standard Chartered Great City Race. Hugh’s father Chris Brasher was a co-founder of the London Marathon (and pacer to Sir Roger Bannister in the first sub 4 minute mile). Hugh worked on the very first London Marathon in 1981 and has worked at every London Marathon since, except in 2005 when he was riding his motorbike from London to Cape Town. Prior to joining London Marathon Events Hugh ran the Sweatshop retail chain which he built up from a single store to 43 stores nationwide before he sold the chain to Sports Direct. In this episode of the podcast, Hugh talks through the incredible story of how the London Marathon came to be, and shows his relentless ambition to grow the event and the events that surround it.
