With many school-aged children out of school this week, it’s a great opportunity to for families to enjoy some quality time together. Don’t be put off by the weather, just make sure that you dress appropriately.
Here are some great options to consider:
1) Explore with mini-adventures locally
Check out https://www.great-days-out.co.uk/parks-gardens/
for inspiration for local options and Youth Adventure Trust’s Virtual Resilience Challenge.

2) Try cooking outdoors
Have you ever tried a winter BBQ with the kids for a bit of fun? Or even better cooking round an open fire in the garden. Even basics like hotdogs or grilled cheese sandwiches can be a great way to get children involved in the cooking process. Who doesn’t love a s’more or toasted marshmallows.

3) Learn how to read a map
Plan a walk out with the kids and teach them how to read a map at the same time. We recommend plotting a route with some fun stops and treats along the way using a basic map. This handy series of videos by Ordnance Survey featuring Steve Backshall offers an educational element.

4) Visit a museum or art gallery
If the weather isn’t great then there are lots of low cost options to visit a local museum or art gallery. The Science Museum and the Natural History Museum in London, the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, and the Tate Modern in Liverpool are just a few examples. Check out Museums.co.uk for other options.

5) Take a trip to the coast
A trip to the coast can be a fun and refreshing escape from the city. There are many beautiful beaches and coastal towns throughout the UK – check out The Beach Guide
for inspiration near you.

6) Get historic
Visit a local castle, learn about history and imagine what life was like in medieval times. English Heritage have a list of over 100 castles, forts and defences you can visit.

7) Get watching or listening
Check out our podcast Outside & Active where you can be entertained and inspired by a whole catalogue of guests that love to be outside & active. From Dame Kelly Holmes, to Ben Fogle, endurance athletes to cancer survivors, health specialists to speed snowboarders, there is something for everyone. No matter what you choose to do, February half term is a great opportunity to spend quality time with your family and create memories. So, plan your week and have fun!
