Frankie McMillan is only just turning eight years old, but this promising new talent is already making a name for himself internationally in the world of mountain climbing and outdoor adventure.
In summer 2023, while still only seven, Frankie became the youngest Briton to reach the Mytikas summit on Mount Olympus – the Mountain of the Gods in Greece, and a technical climb up one of Europe’s highest mountains at nearly 3,000m. His record-breaking feat made him a media star in newspapers and national television around the world.
Frankie has also scaled all 214 Wainwright classification of Lakeland fells, including England’s tallest mountain, Scafell Pike.
He’s the youngest guest columnist in Lakeland Walker magazine; the illustrated star and co-author of a forthcoming children’s book; and the proud recipient of the Rising Star award in the BBC Cumbria Sports Awards 2023. What’s more, he has just launched a brand new YouTube channel full of facts and challenges for each Wainwright as he bags them all a second time, called Frankie Moves The Mountains.
Frankie is only small but he packs a big punch of inspiration – to anyone, young or old. His huge passion for getting moving outdoors is all about fun and feeling good – a powerful combination for both physical and mental wellbeing.
On Sunday morning at Expo24, Frankie will join his adventuring hero Ben Fogle on the main stage to talk about his achievements so far, and to share his very big plans for future adventures – including one of the world’s most famous and challenging hikes that he’ll be tackling happening in Spring 2024.
