Kate MacRae, more commonly known as WildlifeKate, is a British wildlife educator, photographer, outdoor and environmental enthusiast who shares her passion for nature through a variety of media. Newly based in South Wales, Kate is now living her dream with 3 acres to develop for nature.
Kate has dedicated years to bringing the natural world closer to people, especially through the lens of cameras she sets up around her garden, local habitats, and broader landscapes. She’s well-known for her live wildlife cams, which broadcast real-time footage of birds, mammals, and other animals, allowing viewers to get an up-close look at the daily lives and behaviours of British wildlife. Innovative camera projects have bought us the first ever footage of a wild badger giving birth, Wrens nesting in an old hiking boot and nuthatches raising a family in a nest box decorated like a sitting room!
Her journey began as a school teacher, where she incorporated nature into her teaching to inspire children to engage with the environment. This passion soon extended beyond the classroom as she started using technology to document and showcase wildlife. WildlifeKate uses social media, her website, and appearances on television shows like Springwatch, Autumnwatch, The One Show and Countryfile, to name but a few, to share her knowledge and excitement about the natural world. She’s also involved in collaborations with conservation projects and offers guidance on setting up wildlife-friendly spaces in gardens, making it accessible for anyone to bring a bit of nature to their own homes.
WildlifeKate’s work is grounded in a commitment to conservation and environmental education, aiming to inspire appreciation and stewardship for nature and the outdoors in audiences of all ages.
