I’m relatively new to all things outdoorsy but embracing it all with great excitement.
Turning 40 was a real shock; I hadn’t ‘done’ anything, so a friend set me a few tasks to achieve, one of which was my first summit since childhood, and my first scramble – the north ridge of Tryfan in Wales!
A successful summit – although I bottled the Adam & Eve jump – led to summiting Moel Siabod, y Gribin, & Glyder Fawr, and I have Crib Goch booked later this year.
As a newbie I use a guide, and there’s no shame in that! Better safe than sorry.
In lockdown I was encouraged by the same friend to take up whitewater kayaking, and this has now progressed into a real passion. Again, I use a coach, one regularly, and others ad-hoc.
There’s no better way to spend a sunny weekend than paddling down the river, Adrenalin coursing on the rapids, then camping overnight before a hike to a summit the next day!
I’ve also recently tried and loved outdoor rock climbing, and can’t wait to go back & do more!
I feel at home outdoors, and am always chasing the dopamine hit of my next trip! I’ve a long way to go to become a pro at it all, but the beauty of the outdoors is IT DOESN’T MATTER. The outdoors is for everyone.
