Erin’s journey through the outdoor is redefining the narratives of expedition mountaineering and challenging perceptions of who occupies those spaces. When Erin quietly came out as transgender in 2015, she found no trans representation that proved a happy healthy life, woven in outdoor spaces, was possible. Despite the raging suppression of trans people globally, she’s reclaiming her access to the outdoors by continuing her adventures, even in countries where her very existence is criminal. In 2018 Erin began a quest to become the first known trans person to climb the Seven Summits; the goal of climbing the highest summit on each continent. With 5 summits completed, Erin now hopes to bring a positive trans narrative “out of the shadows”.
