22–23 Mar 2025 330 days to go! #GetOutside

John Churcher & Lauren Bean

John and Lauren are two best friends. They met a couple of years back through climbing at a social evening run by Mountain Training. Things didn’t go too well to begin with, Lauren was a bit scared of sightguiding and John wasn’t too chatty either. The story should have ended there, but Lauren loves dogs, and John has very lovely Guidedog called Daisy.
“The problem with dogs is that you kind of have to talk to their owners” – Lauren
They’ve been climbing regularly ever since and now do all kinds of activities together: Wild swimming, hiking, tandem cycling are usual favourites but they are always up for trying new things.
Lauren, 29 , runs a small mobile activities business (The Outdoor Education Company) and has always enjoyed outdoor activities.
John, 47, spent 7 years on the GB paraclimbing team, is a Trustee for DeafBlind UK and was the first blind person to summit the Eiger. He has around 3% vision and 50% hearing.
Our mission is to show people that even with a disability, you can get out there and have an adventure.
