I am the author of ‘’Islandeering: adventures around the edge of Britain’s hidden islands’’; “Island Bagging England and Wales”; and “Paddle Boarding South West England” . My passion is human-powered exploration of Britain’s islands and special blue spaces – our coastline, rivers, lochs and canals. I have walk, swam and paddled around over 500 islands and explored them from top to bottom. I share my walks, swims and paddles online at islandeering.com and in outdoor magazines and national newspapers, and regularly write the Walk of the Week for The Times (Scotland).
I am very keen to help others reap the full health and wellbeing benefits of being in Britain’s blue space and getting outdoors more to explore the special places on our doorstep. I am also very committed to looking after our special blue spaces. I try and do my little bit through the following:
- Very proud to be an Outside Champ for Ordnance Survey and together we are talking about Blue Space, recognizing all of the hundreds of different forms of water in the UK, how to access it and the mental and physical benefits of being on, in, next to and under it in the UK.
- Chair of the global conservation charity, Whale and Dolphin Conservation who powerfully protect these amazing creatures and their marine homes around the world and
- Board Director and instructor for British Nordic Walking, getting people outdoors and benefitting from this amazing all body workout, whilst having a good natter and laugh.
