Bio
Richard first started climbing nearly 20 years ago in 2005 a:er moving to Derby from
Hampshire.
He began to show signs of macular degeneraCon in 2013, registering as severely sight
impaired in 2016. Richard’s sight loss led to him compeCng in his first naConal Para-climbing
compeCCon in Edinburgh in September 2017. Following the success of this series, Richard
was selected to join the GB Para-climbing team in February 2018.
To date Richard has podiumed internaConally in his Para-climbing category (B2) in numerous
compeCCons. His career highlights being achieving Silver in two World Championships
(Moscow, 2021 and Bern, 2023) and Gold at the Swiss World Cup (Villars, 2022).
Alongside his experience as a compeCCon climber, Richard is a qualified climbing coach,
Fitness instructor and Personal trainer. As a GB Para-climbing coach, Richard aims to use his
skills and experiences to develop the next generaCon of para-climbing athletes
