SUP It & Sea is the joint name of Dave and Sophie, who were the first pair to paddleboard 1700km from Land’s End to John o’Groats. They started the journey two months after meeting, using a combination of coastal and inland waters to achieve their goal in 89 days. Not content with stopping there, what started as a jest on paddleboards far out at sea, then became a triple navigation of the country, hiking back through Winter to Land’s End and then cycling back to John o’Groats – all in under a year and clocking up over 5800km in total. The pair had less than a year’s paddleboarding experience, paddled some of the UK’s most dangerous coastlines, canals, SUPed under the Severn Bridges and tackled Scotland’s Northeast Coast in Autumn. They want to prove that you don’t have to be superhuman or an athlete to do incredible things.
Dave is also an avid skier, yoga teacher having trained in India, has completed two Caminos across Spain and Portugal, and is currently climbing the Seven Summits. He suffers from osteoarthritis, is currently on the list to get both hips replaced, and aims to show that arthritis shouldn’t be a barrier to outside activities and adventure.
Sophie is also an avid Wild Swimmer as part of her local Bluetits Flock. Post SUP it and Sea she cycled the length of Wales after discovering a passion for cycling when doing LEJOG. Sophie is currently planning some more SUP expeditions and wants to continue to raise awareness of Mental Health by telling her story through adventure
