22–23 Mar 2025 331 days to go! #GetOutside

Suzanne Hill

Despite growing up on the edge of the Peak District it wasn’t until my thirties that my love affair with the outdoors truly began. Having had a baby and left the city lights behind, I found a renewed purpose, energy and solace in the hills.
In looking for community, I discovered Adventure Queens, which led me to try wild camping, bivvying, night navigation and eventually learning to navigate and lead walks. I am now a Volunteer Queen for the Derbyshire regional group and love helping other women find their place in the outdoors. Last year I gave birth to my second child and since then I’ve become a keen wild swimmer and developed an interest in nature mindfulness and foraging. These days I’m all about trying to incorporate small adventures and nature connection into everyday life both for myself and my children.
This year I became an Ordnance Survey GetOutside champion. I want to show that you don’t have to have been into the outdoors all your life to ‘get into’ it! I love seeing people who are new to it become hooked – one thing leads to another very quickly!!
