At New Futures Nepal we are excited to be attending the National Outdoor Expo in 2026 to
spread the word about the important work we do in Nepal.
New Futures Nepal empowers disadvantaged children and adults of Nepal by raising funds
for initiatives that promote health, education, and independence. We support and advocate
for social integration for children with disabilities to live in the community and within safe and
loving homes. We adopt a hands-on, personal approach and work with local organisations
and charities in Nepal and worldwide to facilitate the charity’s goals and aims. The charity is
wholly operated by volunteers in order to maximise the impact of the funds we receive.
What we do
We focus on three key things;
Children & Young Adults
We work in partnership with registered NGOs in Nepal to provide safe and loving homes to
disabled and orphaned children and young adults, as well as provide essential disability
daycare.
Education
Higher education and/or vocational training is available for all of the young adults within our
care families. The purpose of this is to equip individuals with qualifications and skills so they
are able to live independently. We also fund resources to improve the education of children
in the region of the country south of Mt. Everest.
Lifelines
These schemes enable the provision of financial aid to individuals, organisations, and
communities who are experiencing hardship and are in need of immediate help. In the past
the charity has funded initiatives such as hygiene products, PPE, antigen kits, and food
during the COVID-19 crisis, and financial aid to communities following the 2015 earthquake.
why support a uk charity working in nepal?
We are regularly asked why the people of the UK should contribute to international aid when
there are so many issues that need to be addressed in our own country, especially given the
current financial situation. Our response is always that giving to causes close to home, and
contributing to international aid, does not need to be mutually exclusive.
There is no denying the contribution of the Gurkhas to the British Armed Forces, and many
of us, having enjoyed the knowledge, skills, and kindness of its people while visiting and
trekking, feel a responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of our friends in Nepal.
Landlocked, with restricted intra-country connectivity due to the harsh terrain of the
Himalayan mountains, Nepal has historically been disconnected from the global market. This
has been detrimental to its economic development. Since the Hippie Movement of the
1960s/70, and following the explosion of the trekking industry, Nepal has had links to the
Western World. It has mainly however been reliant on tourism and international aid for much
of the economic growth it has experienced. In a desire to gain its independence, Nepal now
seeks to enter the World economy. Surrounded by two rivalling economic superpowers,
Nepal must now play a complex balancing act of managing India-China/U.S.-China rivalries,
and maximising its economic growth, all while safeguarding the stability of the Himalayas
and its people. This represents an on-going factor with a massive influence on the
development of the country, and is the reason why it is more important than ever to support
Nepal.
One of the benefits of supporting causes in Nepal is that, what may seem like a small
amount of money to us in the UK, can have a significant impact on lives in this beautiful
country.
our vision
As Nepal becomes more independent and regulated, and disability becomes less
stigmatised, we will need to move away from funding for the provision of homes for orphans
and the disabled and move towards raising awareness of disability and providing
opportunities and means for those facing hardship to better their lives.
This may take the form of resources for communities to provide for and care for all their
people, irrespective of the obstacles they face (physical, social, political, or emotional),
providing aid to those facing acute hardships brought about by earthquakes, landslides,
flooding, and disease etc., and providing opportunities for those with extra challenges to live
fulfilling lives, be it through sport, education, training, or job opportunities.
All of this will be directed by the needs of the people and children in Nepal, and we will
continue to offer this support with a hands-on, conscientious approach, whilst maintaining a
strong understanding of, and empathy for, the people of Nepal and the country.
