Let’s go forest bathing – Part 8 – Feel The Forest & Connect To The Wood Wide Web

0 A3

Nigel is the founder of REROOT YOURSELF™ – a detailed look at the science behind nature and wellness, helping busy people with limited time tap into the art of forest bathing and the healing power of nature.

Throughout June I’ll be sharing tips and insights on how to Forest Bathe exclusively on 9KM BY 9AM and the Outside & Active website. A 30-minute forest bathe once or twice a week will help you slow down. It will bring you into the present moment and de-stress and relax you.

LET’S GO FOREST BATHING – PART 8 – FEEL THE FOREST & CONNECT TO THE WOOD WIDE WEB

Letting the forest in is the key to unlocking its power – let nature enter through your eyes, ears nose, mouth, hands and feet. Today we’re touching the forest.

Touch lets you ground yourself, reroot yourself and connect to the universe.

WOOD WIDE WEB

Touching the forest directly with our feet or hands reconnects us to the nature grid or the Wood Wide Web.

Beneath every forest and wood there is a complex underground web of roots, fungi and bacteria helping to connect trees and plants to one another. This system connects a massive 90% of the land plants. This subterranean social network, nearly 500 million years old, has become known as the “wood wide web”. The total length of the fungal network in the top 10cm of soil is more than 450 quadrillion kilometres: around half the width of our galaxy.

GIANT BATTERY

Science says, the earth is like a giant battery with a natural low-level electrical charge.

When our bare feet touch the ground we receive the earth’s powerful healing electrons and become electrically grounded. When this happens science shows we are in harmony with nature – this decreases inflammation, enhances immunity and wound healing.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

EARTH YOURSELF – GO BAREFOOT

Take off your shoes and socks and walk through the woods, the park or your garden. This is called Earthing and involves connecting directly to the soil without the barrier of the pavement or rubber soled shoes – these do not conduct electrons and therefore break the flow and connection with the earth.

HAPPY BACTERIA

Dirt or soil consists of a bacterium that is good for health called Mycobacterium Vaccae, or the ‘happy bacteria’.

By putting your fingers in soil you activate neurotransmitters in the brain that release serotonin or the happy hormone, resulting in happiness and positivity. This can improve your mood and boost your immune system.

My book, Walking Back To Happiness: The Secret To Alcohol-Free Living & Well-Being and my coaching course Reroot Yourself shows how you can massively improve your mental and physical well-being, through re-connecting or rerooting with the natural world, walking outdoors, watching sunrises, forest bathing and being more mindful about the changes in nature that are happening all around you.
