Dragons Back & Waun Fach, Bannau Brycheiniog

The latest 9km by 9am walk takes us on a circular walk to the summit of Waun Fach, the highest peak in the Black Mountains and the second highest in Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly the Brecon Beacons). 5 hours 24 minutes – Distance 14.00KM.

HALF WAY UP THE DRAGONS BACK

ON TOP OF WAUN FACH

Waun Fach via the Dragons Back is a 14KM circular walk / hike. It offers amazing 360 views over the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

The route takes you past the site of the highest castle in Britain before ascending the majestic Dragons Back ridgeline up to Waun Fach (811m), the highest peak in the Black Mountains and the second highest in the Bannau Brycheiniog.

It is a moderate to hard walk. Quite steep on Dragons Back part. Quite steep descent as well.

DURATION – 5 hours 24 minutes

DISTANCE – 14.00KM

ELEVATION – 642 metres. Started at around 300 metres above sea level from car park.

PARKING – in a small car park on the side of the A479 just outside of Pengenffordd. Car Park is owned by the Dragons Back Hotel and costs £2 to park all day. You pay cash at an honesty box. https://w3w.co/propose.grounding.cove
